Colonel (Brevet Major General) Henry Jackson Hunt, Chief of Artillery, Army of the Potomac was born on September 14, 1819 in Detroit Barracks, Michigan. He graduated 19th (of 31) from West Point's Class of 1839. He was promoted to Brigadier General of Volunteers effective September 15, 1862 and Breveted to Major General of Volunteers effective July 6, 1864.

Lieutenant Colonel Edward Solomon

Lieutenant Colonel (Brevet Brigadier General) Edward S. Salomon was born on December 25, 1836 in the Duchy of Schleswig, Germany. He was educated there and at age 14 emigrated to the United States. He continued his education and worked in New York City until moving to the city of Chicago a few years later. While in Chicago Salomon worked as a mercantile clerk and various odd jobs, studied for the law and clerked for a Justice of the Peace. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1860. He became interested in Chicago politics and was elected to the Chicago City Council. Edward Salomon was the youngest member of that council at that time.
